Senior Mining Engineer, South Africa
A position has become available for a Senior Mining Engineer who will be working as a consultant to the Mining Industry, involved in underground and open cast coal mining studies.
Key responsibilities
Undertake underground and open cast coal mining studies, including mine designs, schedules, operating and capital cost estimates
Ensure that the methodology and tools used to undertake mining studies, ore reserve estimates and analysis are appropriate to attain the level of accuracy to meet the client requirements at minimum cost
Ensure all reserve estimate statements undertaken comply with the appropriate code
Maintain and improve technical skills in mining engineering in order to:
Improve the quality of technical solutions
Increase clients perception of technical capability
Reduce error rate (reduced cost and improved client acceptance)
Improve efficiency (reduced costs/improved competitiveness)
Take on the project manager role for nominated projects
Identify developments in mining practice and analysis techniques which offer opportunity for improved efficiency and business development.
Requirements:
At least 10 years coal mining experience, covering both production and mine planning environments
A significant portion of the experience must have been spent in the South African coal mining environment, covering:
Open cast - dragline and truck and shovel operations
Underground – room and pillar, and continuous miner operations
Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering
Mine Managers Certificate of Competency for Coal Mines
Highly literate in mine planning software packages including: Xpac, Surpac, Datamine, Whittle, especially Xpac
Excellent report writing and communications skills
Be able to demonstrate effective negotiation and conflict management skills.
